Why is the quality of labor in Michigan's Great Southwest so outstanding? It's partly based on a strong academic environment and the growing high-tech dominance in the economy.

In Michigan there are 9 million people. Of these, 74.7% have a high school diploma and 16.7% have bachelor's degrees. Our region offers the advantage of a close proximity to many reputable schools in Michigan, Indiana, and Illinois. The total higher education enrollment in Michigan is 550,000. In Berrien County, 12 of 14 high schools have adopted a Career Pathway curriculum.

Michigan's Great Southwest has a workforce of 81,400. 77,600 are employed, and our unemployment rate is 4.6%, with an average annual unemployment rate of 4.555%.

There are a number of programs, in place and under development, aimed at expansion of the workforce.
