Workforce Development
Our Future Depends on Workforce Development
Michigan's Great Southwest offers a diverse and skilled workforce that can't be beat. Our community is committed to providing businesses the opportunity to find the employees they need, while offering individuals the opportunity to receive gainful employment.
That's why area economic development agencies and educational institutions have formed partnerships to strengthen the school-to-career linkages necessary to help young people become aware of diverse career opportunities, and how to prepare for them.
This is not just a local trend; it's a statewide trend. The state's strategy includes a $50 million, two-step initiative. The first step addresses immediate needs by providing community college scholarships for up to 10,000 students who enroll in high-demand, technical training, associate degree or certificate programs. Secondly, Michigan will devote $30 million to establish at least five new Michigan Technical Training Centers (M-TEC) for adults at community colleges. One of these state-of-the art facilities is located right in our region.
Michigan's Great Southwest is being readied for success in dozens of educational and employment preparation programs that complement business needs of all kinds. From GED courses to job-skills training to counseling, these resources help individuals obtain valuable skills and join the region's productive business workforce. Recruiters from area industries will find a wealth of newly trained skilled labor, eager for employment.
